How it works

How IntraMuros keeps your documents private

The machine sits in your building, between your systems and your people. Here is what it reads, what it keeps and what it sends out.

Everything runs inside your building. Only search words go out.

The internet

Search results and our updates come in. The words someone typed into a search go out. Nothing else does.

  • Search words
  • Search results
  • Updates from us

Your building

Your systems

Email, shared drives and documents, and the business systems you choose to connect. Reached with your existing logins and permissions.

The machine

One machine on your site. It holds the AI model, a search index of your documents, and your people's conversations.

Your people

Everyone who needs it. They chat with LARA, the Local Artificial Reasoning Agent built by Mayet, in plain English from a browser. Every answer shows the document it came from.

Your systems, the machine and your people sit inside your building. Only search words leave the machine; search results and updates from Mayet come in.

It sends search words, never your files

When it needs something from the internet, it does what your team does. It types words into a search engine and reads the results. Your documents, the index and your conversations stay on the machine.

There is no account with any AI company, so none holds a history of your questions.

A search is no riskier than a colleague using a search engine. And web search is optional: switch it off and the machine never touches the internet.

The detail, for your IT team

Three facts you can check

  1. 1

    No AI company is involved.

The model sits on the machine's own disk. There is no API key, no AI vendor, no telemetry and nothing to sign in to.

  2. 2

A web search sends the search words and nothing else.

Your conversation, your documents and the index never go with it. Only the results come back in.

  3. 3

Searches are spread across several public engines.

They go out from the machine's own address, so no single search company builds a profile of one named user.

Text from your documents is never sent to a search engine

The search tool is only ever given the words the person typed. Text the machine has read from your documents cannot be passed to it. That is how the tool is built, so nobody has to remember a rule.

What a search engine sees

Whoever runs the search engine sees the words that were searched. The same happens when someone in your office searches from their laptop.

If that is too much for a team, we switch web search off for them. The machine still answers from your documents, because it never needed the internet to answer.

Try it yourself

Unplug the internet and ask LARA a question about your documents. It still answers.

Three things to know before you install it

Your permissions still apply.

If a person can already open a folder, IntraMuros can answer from it for them. If they cannot, it will not. We set this up with your administrator at install, and train them to run it.

Conversations with LARA are your data.

They are stored on the machine like any other application data, so your usual retention and access rules cover them.

We look after the machine.

Monitoring, updates and security checks are part of the service, so your IT team has nothing to look after. An unmaintained AI server can end up open to anyone who finds it.

For CROs

Use AI on sponsor documents without breaching the contract

Your sponsors' contracts often keep their data out of public AI tools. With the model inside your building, sponsor documents never go to an AI provider. The contract question does not arise.
